Maintenance is a key issue when it comes to those aspects that are needed to ensure the durability of any equipment, be it electronics, Automotives, furniture, etc. However, before applying maintenance, it is always recommended that the first possible thing to do is to be able to identify or know what can possibly cause the least effect in any equipment or to be specific rather, any factor that can easily cause the malfunctioning of electronic equipment especially laptops and that's why in today's post we will be sharing with you those factors that easily cause problems to a laptop and what to do to avoid them and possible measures to get rid of these issues when they result; Meanwhile Before getting into these, we will share with you some facts to consider while choosing a laptop.
1) CHOOSING A PC/LAPTOP
Choosing a PC or laptop to buy isn't always as easy as thought especially for the Novice or starter in the computer world. No wonder a lot of people always ask for directions/advice on what type to buy and to an extent where to buy them given the fact that there are many manufacturers and as well many retailers with a different warranty or return policies and so you don't wanna be stuck with a system that's not meeting your anticipated expectation.
a) SYSTEM SPECIFICATIONS
All PCs/tablets basically do the same thing i.e Input, process, and Output data however with so many software and applications being released every day to support different purposes like business, leisure, and productivity. Users are more eager to search for systems that can support multiple purposes especially gaming and productivity. And in this light, System properties such as processor speed, RAM capacity, Diskspace, Graphic cards come in as first-hand necessary checks when buying a PC. Nothing sucks like having a system that takes half of your life just to boot up or start an application. sometimes it freezes due to multiple applications trying to run at once on low specification PC. So it's very much important to check system specifications before buying them.
b) POSSIBILITY FOR AN UPGRADE
Another thing to consider when choosing a laptop is to check if there is a possibility for an upgrade. Some Laptops have everything soldered unto the motherboard; that will mean buying a whole new board with higher capacities should incase you wish for a higher capacity of just one hardware which is soldered on the board. its better to get a system whose hardware can easily be replaced should incase one goes faulty, that will save you a lot of money than going to buy a new higher version of the entire PC except budget isn't an issue for you.
c) AVOID LAPTOPS WITH INTERCONNECTED/DUAL PURPOSE FEATURES.
Now some laptops have keys on their keyboard that perform multiple roles such as the Huawei mate X Pro which has its webcam under one of its keys on the keyboard. This is a very impressive laptop though. Others have their power keys located on the keyboard. the down part of this beautiful and innovative engineering is that a fault in one will cause an automatic replacement of the other. For example, the power button may be having an issue but that will mean changing the entire keyboard and vice versa. The same applies to keyboard integrated webcams.

d) SPARE PARTS AVAILABILITIES
Some computer brands are proprietary such as Dell and in some cases, finding replaceable hardware for such computers can be rare and worst still since these computers don't accept substitutes meaning you can't easily switch hardware from another computer brand to fit into a dell chassis. Dell on its part produces strong, rigid, and durable computers but finding a spare part for a replacement especially their power supplies and motherboards are rare except for you to live in an area well deep in tech trading or surrounded by many Dell retailers.
e) CHECK WARRANTY/ RETURN POLICY
As mentioned in a line above, it's very important to always check return policies, most manufacturers always provide a warranty ranging from 1-3 years depending on the item but each retailer makes their own return policy. it's very important, you check to understand and beware. You don't want to be stuck with a PC that doesn't meet your expectations. some retailers are experts in switching new components with fairly used ones, so be sure you are getting what you are paying for.
That said, having explained some of the key aspects to put into consideration when buying a PC, let's look at some factors that kill laptops and possible ways to get rid of them.
2) FACTORS THAT KILL LAPTOPS
a) Overheating: This is the very first factor that kills laptops and the push factor that causes this is lack of ventilation. computers like humans and machines produce heat when working. If there is poor ventilation, the internal components absorb the heat and they can begin to melt and possibly burn. keep in mind that running some heavy applications usually causes the computer hardware extra work to meet up with the processing and output. so ensure your computer has proper ventilation.
Do not place your portable computers on your lapse or on the mattress, the surfaces block the air vents and can possibly burn.
b)Cold: The very signs of cold on a PC/Laptop falls on the keyboard. Cold is required to keep the heating components of a computer cool during work but too much of it starts affecting the PC beginning with the keyboard. You will get loud sounds and random display of keys pressing themselves. Like any electronics, they turn to be faulty when abandoned for long. however, there are two ways of getting rid of issues resulting from cold: either use a heat blower to blow the internal components of the PC or plug the PC to current and leave it for 6 to 10hrs before use. a but then a Heat blower is the most effective.
c)Dust: Accumulation of dust results in a lack of ventilation which causes overheating. Dust blocks the free flow of air through the air vents and too much of it on the fans causes the fan propellers to be heavier to spin and this makes it unable to produce an adequate amount of airflow. Dust can also disrupt the smooth connections between components since it settles on the wires etc. So, its necessary to always perform some preventive maintenance at least twice or thrice a month. you can either use a blower which we highly recommend or a soft bristle paintbrush.

d) Short Circuits and ESDs: Short Circuits and Electrostatic discharges are most common in desktop computers. During disassembly, it's important to ground yourself by wearing a wrist strap or by placing both hands on the floor for a few seconds before continuing work and this must be done every 5 to 10 mins. this is because molecules in the body build up electricity every time and if you touch a component also charged with electricity, there is bound to be a shock. Shorts circuit mostly occurs when extra components are left on the motherboard. these components also absorb power thereby causing electrical disturbances and as such components may not receive the required amount of voltage necessary for them to work properly
e)Last but not least is the voltage. High voltage destroys PC components and low voltage provides an inadequate amount of electricity for the PC to even power on or works at peak performance since it operates on low power. So, it's advisable to get a power stabilizer if you are a desktop user. Moreover, random power cuts also cause damage to desktop systems. Damages include Data loss, power burn, or motherboard explosion. Getting a UPS(Uninterrupted power supply) resolves this.
Thank you for reading until the end. Understandably, choosing a laptop or PC isn't easy for everyone and so a lot of people often write to me for recommendations on what to buy. this post has given a general overview of criteria to check before making a purchase. you can write to us directly or in the comments for recommendations on which particular PC system you need depending on the main activity you wish to carry on it where gaming, video editing, etc. Meanwhile out subsequent post will answer this one particular. please subscribe so you don't miss it.
